Welcome

I am a therapist by training with a master’s degree in marriage and family therapy. In some form or another, most people come to therapy wanting help with their relationships. Frequently though, therapy is not what is needed and for many individuals and couples this approach simply does not feel like the right fit.

In my experience, a great deal of difficulty is created and sustained by poor communication. Often, it is compounded by a lack of clarity about what is driving unproductive and unsatisfying interactions. When problems are met with new understanding and communication is clear and respectful, resolution and connections come into focus.

Meet the Coach

Often, we wait too long before seeking help with our troubles, believing we should be able to sort out problems on our own. While I understand this tendency, each day we struggle with unresolved problems creates a great deal of anxiety that only makes it more difficult to work towards effective solutions. Sometimes, the strengths, skills, and resources that we have used successfully in the past are now insufficient to resolve current issues. Often, developing a new communication skill set along with a new perspective can quickly move us forward toward satisfying solutions.

In my practice I see adults – men, women, and couples and enjoy working with a wide range of issues, including the following:

  • Difficult or Unsatisfying Communication
  • Feeling Misunderstood or Under-appreciated
  • Feeling Disconnected from your spouse
  • Feelings of Isolation or Inadequacy
  • Expressing Anger appropriately
  • Understanding Shame or Guilt

Just a few kind words from my clients.

  • "I've been going to Adam for several months now. I appreciate his ability to listen carefully to whatever I have to say, regardless of my pace or clarity, and help me to reflect on it in productive, insightful ways. I consistently walk out of his office with a renewed sense of focus and appreciation for whatever may be on my mind."

    Joseph R.

  • "My fiancé and I came to Adam when we were having some communication issues. We had just moved in with each other and found that we were continuously getting into the same type of fights over and over without much resolution. Adam arranged an initial free consultation which was a 50 minute session and got right into the issues. We immediately agreed he was the right fit for us. Adam really got to the core of our issues and helped us understand each other a lot better. He made us feel welcome, accepted and comfortable right off the bat."

    Ayla W.

  • "Adam was my top choice out of 10 counselors that I talked to. Being an engineer, I took an engineering approach to finding a counselor in Seattle. I looked up all the ones I could find online, then actually set up appointments and went and talked to my favorite 10. I liked all of them, but Adam stood out as my favorite. 17 months later, I still go. Adam has an easygoing, non-judgmental, open, thoughtful and curious approach that is comfortable and works really well for me. Highly recommended!"

    Orion B.

  • "My boyfriend and I were having trouble communicating. It had gotten to the point where it was find counseling or go our separate ways. We came across Adam, and not a moment too soon!!! We both felt at ease talking with him about our struggles. He helped reveal the unproductive patterns we were stuck in and, after persistent hard work, guided us to a much more respectful, loving and constructive place. Adam is wonderful and we would both recommend him for couples or one on one counseling. Thanks Adam!"

    Amanda T.

  • “We really appreciate Adam’s communication style, he is clear, candid and doesn’t hide behind therapy jargon. We never feel that he is taking one person’s “side” during discussions. We genuinely recommend Adam Meyers to anyone that wants to work through relationship and family challenges and want’s a straight-forward therapist. Thank you Adam!.”

    David L.

  • “My marriage was in crisis. I had moved out after years of living in a negative environment. My husband found Adam for personal counseling. After a few weeks of being separated, my husband and I attended marriage counseling in addition to my husband’s individual sessions. I can honestly say, that without Adam I would likely be divorced. He helped us to communicate more efficiently, be more compassionate and more patient.  After a 6 month separation, and 4 months of counseling we moved back in together. He’s happy, I’m happy and life is good.”

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if coaching is a good fit for me?

My coaching style is direct and encouraging. This can be challenging work, requiring us to look at our part in our interactions with others. If an approach that challenges counter productive behaviors and offers alternative interactions, creating understanding and connection makes sense to you, this approach can work for you.

What is the difference between coaching and therapy?

Coaching focuses on goals and developing the clarity, understanding, and skills to meet these goals. As a coach, I do not diagnose or treat any mental health condition. Coaching is not therapy and is not a substitute for any person who needs therapy. Therapy is a medical intervention designed to treat a specific condition or diagnosis.

What can be expected at the first session?

First, we get clear on your goals – what will be the focus of our work together? For couples, I often ask “What do you want more of in your life, or in your relationship.” You can expect to come to a better understanding of your difficulties and the behaviors that create and maintain them. We will take a close look at communication and how it can help get you closer to your goals.

Can we talk with you between sessions?

Our scheduled appointment is the only time we communicate. I am not available by text, phone, or email.

What types of payments do you take?

Payments are processed on the tele-health platform –  https://doxy.me/adammyers using Stripe. This is the only method of payment accepted and payment is due before the start of each session. This arrangement will allow our work to begin without delay.

Do you see clients in person?

All sessions are held from the comfort of your home or office using a HIPPA compliant tele-health platform –  https://doxy.me/adammyers

What types of relationships do you work with?

My experience and training as a marriage and family therapist informs my work, whether with a spouse, children, step children, siblings, parents, and estranged or difficult relationships. I do not work with persons under the age of 18.
